The Skeleton King, the undead husk of King Leoric, was raised by Diablo after his death. Mad in death and infused with necromantic powers, Leoric gathers an army of undead in the bowels of the Cathedral when the player is tasked to stop him. Upon his death, he drops the Undead Crown in singleplayer and a random item in multiplayer.

The encounter has differing mechanics depending on whether he is engaged in singleplayer or multiplayer. In the former, he has the ability to raise skeletons from the dead, and he does so quite frequently. In the latter however, he instead has 100% lifesteal, meaing that 10 damage dealt heals him for 10 damage as well. This can exceed his initial life amount.

"The warmth of life has entered my tomb. Prepare yourself, mortal, to serve my Master for eternity! (laughs)"
