Harem (Diablo II)

The Harem is a two floored basement that is dedicated to concubines and possibly wives of the sultan, Jerhyn. The Harem is located in the lower floors of the Palace. Before the hero arrives in Lut Gholein, Jerhyn hides the fact the portal to the Arcane Sanctuary had been opened within the Palace Cellar below the Harem, which allowed demons dwelling within the realm to be set free from their prison and attack the Palace from the bottom up. Despite Jerhyn's greatest efforts, the many women in the Harem are slain and murdered by the demons, along with the guards he dispatched to stop their assault.

The first level of the harem never spawns any mobs and simply contains two staircases down. Thematically and monsterwise, the Palace Cellar can be considered to the the same dungeon as the Harem, as the level design, monster types and level development of the area is consistent between the two dungeons.

The Harem, like the Palace Cellar, isn't as random as other parts of the game. There are only eight total map files used to create the Harem, and each time the level is generated four of the files are used (one for each corner), leading to a total of 16 possible layouts of the Harem.
