Ideas about the Featured Article section[]

Rather than c/p an entire article I would suggest transcluding portions of the chosen article with a Read more... link at the end. The goal of featuring an article is to get the visitor to delve farther into the wiki, not put it all out on the main page. We should also focus on new things in Diablo III that we know about, the changes in the crafting system that have been revealed to date, the changes to skill mechanics utilizing the new runestone system (as it stands currently). Featuring items of obscure lore (or any lore for that matter) is not going to really excite a visitor who's looking for the latest, hottest news and information about Diablo III, and thus they will not stay around as long to see what all we have to offer. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 04:44, 28 October 2011 (UTC)

I agree with the "read more" part, but in the case of the Anu article that was literally it, and I opted to just include it all rather than slicing it. It may not have been the best decision.
I don't think automatically disqualifying lore is a good decision though. Obscure articles of any kind should probably not be put up. But the lore reveal that weekend was brand new, and given the great exposure it's gotten, not to mention an entire panel at Blizzcon, it was relevant. A lot of people do look for lore and it's something we want to make sure people associate with the wiki.
The article rotation is rather slow however, I mean ideally I'd think we'd change the featured article at least a week. That's something we can improve on. Perhaps the next could be a link to one of the quest pages?--PhrozenDragon 08:24, 28 October 2011 (UTC)

Article Rotation[]

I replaced the previous featured article yesterday, which had at that point been up for 47 days, far too long. The problem is that many of our articles lend themselves badly to being featured, since they display much of their information in template or table format. We need article that have text in them, or at least have an introductory part with enough text. If you come up with any ideas, or suggestions for new aticles that could be featured, please add them to this template page. I've added a little documentation to hopefully make it easier to keep track of what we're featuring and for how long --PhrozenDragon 18:15, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

I've added Diablo as a candidate. The article is very detailed and will soon have been updated with a lot of Book of Cain lore, something worth highlighting. --PhrozenDragon 01:55, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

Reign of the Black King[]

I added the final quest as a featured article, as I think they're some of the best articles we have on D3 at the moment. Their format lends itself very poorly to being featured however, so I opted to do a short text-summary of the quest and information available on the page. Since many potentially great articles in the future might suffer from the same limitations, perhaps this is something we ought to do more often. --PhrozenDragon 16:58, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
