Shout will substantially increase the defense rating of the Barbarian and any nearby allies, making it more difficult for monsters to land blows. This provides the potential of limiting incoming damage by quite a bit, which should be a priority for any Barbarian. In addition to its own effects, it also increases the duration of the Barbarian's other primary Warcries, Battle Orders and Battle Command, thus ensuring that they don't wear off during the thick of battle. Most builds won't max this skill, but they will put points into it once their other primary skills have been maxed, both for the defense bonus and the duration synergies to the other cries. Like other Warcries, Shout does not stack, so a group with multiple Barbarians should let the player with the highest skill level cast this buff.
Barbarian warriors are born to command in battle. When a warrior learns this skill he can raise his voice above the din of combat to shout warnings of impending blows to his comrades in arms. This will alert them in time to allow them to guard against the incoming attack.
