Leah is the daughter of Adria and Aidan, who was adopted by Deckard Cain at the age of eight.[1] She will be an important character in Diablo III. She's also the narrator of the Diablo III cinematic trailer shown at the 2008 Blizzard Worldwide Invitational:

"It has been said, that in the end of all things, we would find a new beginning.

But as the shadow once again crawls across our world, and the stench of terror drifts on a bitter wind, the people pray for strength and guidance... they should pray for the mercy of a swift death. For I have seen what the darkness hides.

I don't think it's safe here!" [2]

Jay Wilson sheds some light on her role:

"Q: So let's talk a bit about lore. In the first trailer we saw that girl named Leah. What role does she play? She got a lot of airtime for being a totally unknown character that we wanna know something about.

Jay Wilson: Leah is the adopted daughter of Deckard Cain. As Cain is a lot older in this game, we felt that we needed another character to kind of play some of his roles but also be more active. We wanted a character who was out in the world with the player who would occasionally interact and help the player out. So she's kind of a quest giver and sometimes a companion."[3]

Diablo III[]

Leah was present when a meteor struck the Cathedral in Tristram, blowing a rift deep into the labyrinth beneath and seemingly killing her uncle. Leah later recruits a band of adventurers to enter the cathedral and rescue him.

In Act II, Leah is trained by Adria to control the power of the Black Soulstone in which Azmodan and Belial will be trapped. At the end of Act III, Adria reveals that Leah is the daughter of Diablo, and fuses the Black Soulstone with Leah to make her become Diablo. Leah's ultimate fate is never explicitly revealed, though the Witch Doctor's dialogue with Covetous Shen states that her soul resides in Mbwiru Eikura, so she must have been killed at some stage after Diablo's possession of her body. Also, the Monk's dialogue with Covetous Shen states that after Diablo's possession, her spirit was gone forever.

Leah's Journals[]

Part 1[]

"We've been under siege for six days now. Uncle Deckard is still missing. Captain Rumford and the others are losing hope. I tell them not to lose faith... but if help doesn't arrive soon..."

Part 2[]

"A miracle has happened! A hero like one out of Uncle Deckard's tales appeared and saved us! I know in my heart that my uncle still lives, and I pray that the hero will bring him home safely."

Part 3[]

"Uncle Deckard is home‒‒rescued from the clutches of the Skeleton King! I'm so glad. But the Skeleton King? I thought he was a folktale. The idea of Mad King Leoric returning to torture this place... Hasn't Tristram suffered enough?"

Trivia[]

Leah is voiced by Jennifer Hale.

  • Templar: Have no fear, Leah. We will make this world safe again.
  • Enchantress: You have no idea.

  • Player (Demon Hunter): I only do what is necessary.

Fields of Misery

Leah: These fields used to be so beautiful. Uncle Deckard told me stories of them when I was a little girl.
  • Enchantress: They will be lovely again in time.

Act I areas

Leah: I miss Caldeum.
  • Player (Demon Hunter): What do you miss?
Leah: It is such an open and beautiful city. It thrives on trade and new ideas. There was always something new and exciting to hear or see.

Random discussion

Leah: When this is over, I could open my own little inn somewhere. If I live.
  • Player (Demon Hunter): I couldn't go back to that kind of life.
Leah: Well, if you ever want a job, I will consider your credentials.
  • Player (Demon Hunter): (chuckles) Perhaps I should just visit.

Random discussion

  • Player (Demon Hunter): Tell me about this inn you want to open.
Leah: This world is so dangerous. Everybody needs a quiet, safe place to rest and recover. A waystation on their journeys.
  • Player (Demon Hunter): A perfect place to be ambushed. I'd sleep in a field.
Leah: No one is getting ambushed in my inn!

Random comment

  • Aren't adventurers supposed to, I don't know, do some adventuring?
  • Don't we have important things to be doing?
  • Shouldn't we be going?
  • This is about as exciting as the time Uncle Deckard and I spent the summer in Bramwell. People are quite boring there.
