Enchantress concept

Eirena the Enchantress is a Diablo 3 Follower who wields magic. She uses various ranged magical attacks and crowd control abilities.

Lore[]

I have left everything behind... only hope guides me now.

— Eirena

Eirena’s mastery of enchantments and steely bravery in battle belie her youth – but the truth of her origins reconciles these qualities.

Eirena hails from the distant era of the Mage Clan Wars, where she was part of a clandestine sisterhood of magic-users known as the Hand of the Prophet. When the leader of the sisterhood, the eponymous Prophet, foresaw a great disaster that would occur fifteen hundred years in the future, Eirena and her sisters pledged their lives to preventing the tragedy. The sisters’ pledges were far from mere words, and the Prophet placed the entire sisterhood in a magical slumber to preserve them until the appointed time.

Recently, Eirena awoke to find herself in a world of portents and turmoil, a land vastly changed from the one she remembers. Her sisters are dead, and the Prophet is nowhere to be found.

Despite the shock of her situation, Eirena’s purpose is clear: she has given herself over to a new age in the hopes that she will discover its salvation. Could her uncommon magic prove to be the key that will help you expel demonkind from Sanctuary? [1]

Follower Interactions[]

The persistent followers, unlike Hirelings in Diablo II apart from aiding the player, are a living part of the world and the story line. The player can choose to talk with them at any time like with regular NPCs. Eirena can also initiate a short discussion with the player's character or throw in shorts comments during the play.

Depending on the player character class the discussion with the Enchantress may vary, resulting from different character background.

Quest Dialogue[]

Upon approaching the skeletal remains of Ghost of the Cow King

Enchantress: This is an omen most grave.

Upon entering The Old Ruins

  • Player (Barbarian): Old Tristram. Diablo himself once walked this place.
  • Player (Wizard): Old Tristram. Diablo himself once walked this place.
  • Player (Demon Hunter): Old Tristram... Diablo's evil still lingers here.
Enchantress: There is much to lament in this tragedy.

Upon entering Cathedral Level 1

Enchantress: We must take care here. There are shadows at every turn.

Upon entering The Weeping Hollow

Enchantress: There are so many crypts here. I feat we will face much danger.

Upon entering Fields of Misery

Enchantress: This would be fine farmland... if it wasn't cursed and teeming with ferocious monstrosities.

While in Fields of Misery

Enchantress: Be wary of the trees. They are not as they appear.

The Broken Blade

Enchantress: The sword's magic has driven these animals to madness.
  • Player (Demon Hunter): It is evil, then?
Enchantress: Not precisely. Any great power will corrupt those who are insufficient vessels for it.

Upon entering The Festering Woods

Enchantress: These woods are ominous and old... even older than my time.

While in The Festering Woods

Enchantress: I wish I had a spell to make the sun come out.

Upon completion of Eternal War event

Enchantress: This battle felt odd... like it has happened before.
Leah: I studied these battles in Cain's books... but seeing them is much worse.

Trailing the Coven

Enchantress: I cannot help but think of Cain. His sacrifice will not be in vain.

Upon entering Caverns of Araneae

Enchantress: Death waits for many here.

While in Caverns of Araneae

Enchantress: I do not really care for the dark. You will not tell anyone, will you?

While in Southern Highlands

  • Enchantress: The khazra have laid many traps for us. Be cautious.
  • Enchantress: If the Coven takes root here, their spells will turn the soil to ash, and nothing shall grow again.
Enchantress: It is odd, but when I gaze at the khazra, I see the shadows of men.
  • (Demon Hunter): Perhaps they are more than they appear to be.
Enchantress: My sight is seldom wrong.

Shadows in the Desert

Upon entering Sundered Canyon

Enchantress (Follower): Let us go. I know these deserts well.

Meeting Eirena

Enchantress (NPC): Take heed, traveler. Cultists guard these desert roads, and they will slay any who pass.
  • Player (Demon Hunter): I've heard. I traveled here to kill them and their leader.
Enchantress (NPC): Then you must not go alone. I shall accompany you.

NPC Eirena follows you.

Enchantress (NPC): There are illusions out there—mirages, to some—but I can see them for what they are: the Coven's foul magic. They will lead you to your death.
  • Player (Demon Hunter): Thanks for the warning, but I know a trap when I see one.
Enchantress (Follower): She seems very familiar...

Talk Dialogue[]

A Lost Age[]

  • Player (Demon Hunter): It's hard to believe that you came from such a faraway time. Tell me, what were the deserts like then?
Enchantress: Beautiful cities towered up toward the heavens, but they were full of wickedness. The Vizjerei ruled them with wills sharp as stone.
  • Player (Demon Hunter): That name sounds familiar... Who were the Vizjerei?
Enchantress: A clan of mages bound more by their lust for power than by blood. I see that their influence has waned in this age.
  • Player (Demon Hunter): You said you served a wizard, didn't you? Was he one of them?
Enchantress: Oh, no. He meant to punish the Vizjerei. They were the first to summon daemons into this land.

  • Player (Demon Hunter): Don't you enjoy it?
Enchantress: Not particularly.

  • Player (Demon Hunter): What has changed?

Enchantress: Why, yes! Don't you?
  • Player (Wizard): How else would I get this good?

Random discussion

Enchantress: Do you ever become weary of strife? Of constant fighting?
  • Player (Demon Hunter): Rest is a luxury I cannot afford.
Enchantress: (Sigh, heh) You are not very good at lifting the spirits of others, are you?

Random discussion

Enchantress: You have my thanks.
  • Player (Demon Hunter): Why do you say that?
Enchantress: For bringing me with you. You are all I have in this new age.

Enchantress: When did you slay your first daemon?
  • Player (Demon Hunter): I suppose it was a few years ago, during my training. You?

Enchantress: Oh, I was thirteen.

  • Player (Demon Hunter): What's so amusing?
Enchantress: I just recalled something the Prophet said about you.
  • Player (Demon Hunter): What was that?
Enchantress: Oh, nothing... hehe.

Enchantress: Do men in your land really dress in that manner?
  • Male Player (Demon Hunter): Of course! Why do you ask?
Enchantress: (Diplomatically) Oh... I was merely curious.

  • Male Player (Demon Hunter): Perhaps... Why do you ask?

  • Male Player (Wizard): Well, I would not want to boast... Why?
Enchantress: Oh, I was merely curious.

Enchantress: What is your homeland like?
  • Player (Demon Hunter): The Dreadlands? It's not home, only a place to train and organize.
Enchantress: I would like to see it someday.
  • Player (Demon Hunter): If you insist.
