The falling star crashed into and old Zakarum cathedral, which seems a likely place to unearth ancient secrets. No wonder the Crusade led me to this place. The nearby town, New Tristram, seems unremarkable, except for the fact that it is besieged by legions of the risen dead. I will see what I can do to help, so long as it brings me to the cathedral. To work of the Crusade continues.
I've met a young woman named Leah, who wishes my help to save New Tristram. There is something special about her, some quality I cannot define. Perhaps she is tied to the Crusade?
The Wretched mothers and their queen are the source of these zombies. If I return them to the grave, New Tristram will stand a chance of survival. That is the most one can hope for in these times.
I am finally ready to journey to the cathedral. Could the answers to the crusade lie within? Leah has asked me to look for her uncle, Deckard Cain. Given that he is an elderly scholar, I would very much like to speak with him - if he still lives.
Go to the Old Tristram Gate northeast of the Old Tristram Waypoint.
I must find the key that will allow me to enter the cathedral, and for this, Leah accompanies me. It's almost as if I had taken on an apprentice. Something I must do soon, for if I fall without training an apprentice, my name will die with me.

The dead are thicker inside the Cathedral. Whateverstirred them, it lies beneath this place, with the falling star. I hope the old man Cain lives, but it seems unlikely.
Apparently this fellow the Skeleton King is behind the troubles of New Tristram. I'd like to have words with him, but to do that I first have to find his crown, and so I need the help of the local blacksmith.
Well I suppose it would be to easy if the Blacksmith had the crown in his workshop, wouldn'it? Apparently it's in the tomb of the Skeleton King's chancellor.
Apparently this Skeleton King has terrorized Tristram in the past. Well I've got his crown so I can open the golden door that leads to the depths of the cathedral. So that will, as they say, be the end of that.
Well now the warrior has asked for my help locating his weapon and armor. A crusader should always help those in need, unless it interferes directly with the crusade.
The warrior is a templar, who descend from the paladin order. While he follows the light of zakarum, he does not understand it is corrupted. Still, I sense a good heart in this man.
The fallen star is a man. He has no memories, but I know warrior when I see one. He says he lost his sword in the fall, and Cain thinks that returning it to him will restore his memory. Seems a slim chance, but I'll go to the fields of misery and search for the first piece.
I have tracked the first piece of the Stranger's shattered sword to a khazra den in the Fields of Misery' I suppose I'll go have words with the goatmen.
I met the most interesting woman, Maghda, She's a witch and she leads a cult. I suspect I'll see her again. In any case, I've found a sword fragment and should get it to Cain.
We've met a thief, plain and simple. He wants our help, and I can't say no since I lack proof of any wrongdoing on his part. The Crusade has many strange tenets, but things usually work out.
Cain is dead. On the Crusade, I have seen many friends fall, but it never gets any easier. I will honor his memory through word and deed. And the first deed is to rescue that angel. The coven has taken him through the caves above Wortham, to the Highlands.
Karyna says I'll need a khazra staff to pass the goatmen's barricade. Fortunately, just such a staff can be found in her cart somewhere in the Highlands.
Approach the Khazra Barricade with the Khazra Staff in the northern part of the Southern Highlands.
I have the staff. The Khazra will open their barricade to get it, and then I can fight my way to Leoric's manor.
I must cross the Highlands to reach Leoric's manor. I wonder why Maghda's cultists chose to hide the angel there? Well, I suppose it doesn't matter where they hide him, I'll get him back in any case.
Battle is grisly work, one that requires a strong stomach. But torturing the helpless is not the work of the strong. All who hurt those weaker than themselves will answer to me.
The fallen star was, in truth, an angel named Tyrael. Things have become decidedly more interesting. I think this may indeed be the work of the Crusade.
Caldeum. I passed near here when I first came west, but did not stop, since I knew other Crusaders were investigating the city. Now we have a secret camp set up on the city's outskirts, and I can begin to hunt down Maghda. I must beware though, Belial holds sway in this city.
Refugees from Alcarnus fill the streets. Emperor Hakan does nothing and without his leadership, the Iron Wolves can only do so much. Once I find Maghda, I can turn my attention to saving this city.
I met an interesting lass named Eirena out in the desert, She wields great power, but is possessed of a strange naivete. In any case, she seems to know much about this desert, so we may be able to help one another.
The Cultists are tenacious, I will give them that. They have foregone illusion and instead actually blocked the road to Alcarnus. I will have to divert through the Khasim Outpost.
The Iron Wolves had been taken prisoners by the Imperial Guard, who sought to capture me as well. But now the Iron Wolves are freed and can open the gate to Alcarnus for me.
The Imperial Guard controls the emperor of Caldeum. If I am to free him from its influence, I will need the help of Asheara, leader of the Iron Wolves.
Zultun Kulle. I have come across this name in my researches, and he always sounded a bit mad. I suppose some might say the same of our little group. But if we need this Kulle then we shall revive him.
The child emperor of Caldeum found me in the sewers, and swore to try and help as he can, despite being restricted by his own guard. We shall see if he is of any help against Belial, but for now I must focus on finding the head of Zultun Kulle, hidden away in a dungeon beneath the Dahlgur Oasis.
I have the head of Zoltun Kulle. In my years of pursuing the Crusade, I have carried severed human heads with me for various reasons several times, but this is the first time I've been planning to resurrect the head's original owner. This should prove interesting.
Zultun Kulle is completely untrustworthy, and more than a little insane., but I like him. He's a fellow of rare ambition. I'm sure he'll betray me at some point, and I'll be forced to kill him. Until then, it will be interesting to have him around.
Emperor Hakan came to me once more, but he has not accomplished anything. With every action I've taken since arriving in Caldeum, I have felt an unseen hand pushing back against me. Belial. He is a slippery opponent.
And of course I have encountered another madman. It seems to be my lot in life. This one is called Covetous Shen and he is searching the aqueducts for some relic called a crucible.
Somewhere beneath this desert, Kulle's blood was sealed away long ago by the Horadrim. We will need it when we reach his archives, so its recovery is just another step on the path to Belial.
With Kulle's blood, I can undo the locks that seal away the Realm of Shadow where his body is held. I am distracted by these archives. So much knowledge resides in this place! The key to cleansing the Zakarum faith may be here. I will have to return here once all this madness is done.
We have everything we require to resurrect Kulle, and Leah knows the ritual. I only hope we get our hands on the Black Soulstone before Kulle betrays us.
Well, Kulle was not back among the living for very long. He is dead, though I would not be surprised to run into him again sometime. More importantly, we have the Black Soulstone and are ready to face Belial.
Belial will do anything to keep me from him. He must know I have the Black Soulstone and he is smart enough to have deduced what I mean to do with it. Time is running out.
That was quite the climb. I'm in Bastion's Keep, at the top of the world. I have come so far from the svamplands of my youth. But one thing remains the same everywhere: the work of the Crusade. Demons are assaulting this keep, and I will relieve the beleaguered defenders.
The signal fires have rallied the defenders. Now the time has come to dislodge the demons from these walls, and the first step is to raise the catapults in Stonefort.
The catapults have repulsed the demon army from the walls, but Azmodan is tenacious. His sappers have tunneled into the Keep's depths. If I don't go down and stop the incursion, they will boil up from the sublevels and kill every man, woman, and child within.
One of Azmodan's more powerful minions has seized the larder. Either he seeks to starve us out, or he just wishes to annoy Shen. In either case, I will deal with the creature.
Ghom, the Lord of Gluttony, is dead. Whatever part of the larder that was not corrupted is now restored to the Keep's population. I am sure Shen will dance himself a jig. But the fight goes on, and I must return to the main hall to regroup.
This bridge is called Rakkis Crossing. Perhaps it holds secrets that may benefit the Crusade. I will have to explore it later, after I've killed the demon guarding it, and taken the fight to Azmodan in Arreat Crater.
Leah's vision revealed that Azmodan's legions are powered by Sin Hearts. If I descend into the crater and destroy these abominable devices, it will stop the demonic invasion at its source.
Azmodan is the last surviving Lord of Hell. When he falls, the influence of demons will finally be gone from our world. Is this the point of the Crusade? Have I, without even knowing it, found a way to cleance the Zakarum faith?
Azmodan's soul is captured, and Leah can now destroy the Black Soulstone. Adria prepares the rituals in the armory. I will join them. It is almost done.
Adria... I have no words for it. There is never time to grieve for the fallen, and this day I do not even have time to chase down the betrayer. I must get to the High Heavens and stop Diablo, or all is lost.
I have come to the High Heavens. I never thought the Crusade would bring me here. But it came at great cost, this visit. Leah is dead, betrayed by her own mother. And Diablo is swiftly conquering these golden halls. Tyrael and I must speak about our next steps.
Tyrael has lost heart. Perhaps human emotions such as loss and despair are too new to him. He has not yet come to terms with those aspects of the mortal warrior's life. He will in time, but until then, I must carry on alone.
Diablo's first champion, Iskatu, is dead. There will be more. But the Crusade has taught me never to stop. If Tyrael cannot rouse himself, I will find another angel to aid me.
I have destroyed Diablo's portals and with them, his ability to reinforce his army. I imagine he'll send his remaining demons to face me. That suits me just fine.
Tyrael is ready to stand by my side. The fighting will be hard, and I am glad to have him. We will make our way to the Crystal Colonnade and then up the Silver Spire itself.
Tyrael is ready to stand by my side. The fighting will be hard, and I am glad to have him. We will make our way to the Crystal Colonnade and then up the Silver Spire itself.
Imperius is truly an angry sort. Could the writings of Akarat soothe the soul of an angel, I wonder? I doubt it. In any case, the gateway to the Silver Spire lies just ahead, and I've little time.
I go to the Crystal Arch alone. It is time to face Diablo. I have seen so much but I have never faced a foe such as this. Yet I am a crusader - armored by faith, driven by duty, bound to kill the enemies of Zakarum.
It is done. But there is no cause for celebration. Too many good people fell before this madness ended. It is time to return to the work of the Crusade.
I can scarcely credit the events of the last month. I followed a falling star to the west, and found companions who now share my travels. I met an angel made made mortal, I saw my friends Cain and then Leah pass from this life. I traveled to Heaven and defeated the Prime Evil. Yet the work of the Crusade calls me still. Rumors of an ancient scroll drew me to the west, but before I could find it, word came of a massacre in Westmarch. And so I go.
The dead clog the streets, it is impossible not to step on them. The victims at the very bottom are little more than pulp. Each of them died before the Zakarum faith was cleansed. I may yet stop the killing and avenge the dead, but I failed these people. They never had a chance to be saved by the glory of a redeemed Zakarum faith. I must find and defeat Malthael, so that I may return to the work of the crusade.
Until recently, most people did not know of the existence of angels. And the few who did assumed they were benevolent, our allies against the demons. Now, angels hunt down unarmed people in the streets. Nothing will ever be the same. Mankind knows that angels are real, and that they are not our friends. Even if the Angiris Council arrived to stop the slaughter right now, it is too late—the damage is done.
Go through Westmarch Heights to the Tower of Korelan, where Urzael waits for you. Also, kill the Maidens of Flame burning down the city.
Find the entrance to the Tomb of Rakkis in the Overgrown Ruins.
Adria has done many foul things in her life. But her worst crimes pale in comparison to what she did to Leah. She birthed the girl solely to sacrifice her for Diablo's return. She murdered her own child, and for that, I will kill her. Leah was the light that kept all of us—even Haedrig—going in the darkest hours. She was full of promise and all she wanted was to lead a simple life, running an inn, helping travelers. I promise you, Leah, the witch Adria will die.

Go through Tyrael's portal through the Pandemonium Gate.
So, it's back to Heaven in order to reach Pandemonium. I'd like to think the trip will be without incident—perhaps I'll run into my old friend Imperius. I'm sure we'll quaff a few pints and reminisce over old times before he walks me to the Pandemonium Gate and holds it open for me. Stranger things have happened, surly. Or perhaps not.
Kill Lamiel and the reapers at the Pandemonium Gate.
Someday I will lie bleeding in a dich, dying. And I'd always imagined that, on that day, I'd tell my apprentice of my trip to the High Heavens. But Pandemonium has already proved itself the stranger land, by far. I've seen demons that fight battles long ended, bizarre creatures that should not exist, and more. Who knows, perhaps the object of the crusade lies here as well? In any case, I must hurry. With each moment, thousands more die on Sanctuary, and Malthael's power grows.
Fight through the Path of War to the Abandoned Siege Camp.

Retrieve the Siege Rune from the end of the Path of War.
A war that's raged for millennia, that cannot be won, and that serves no purpose. That is what I have seen in this place. If ever I thought that angels or demons were superior to mankind in any way, I now know better. They are shallow reflections of the beings they seem, and Tyrael was wise to forsake his brethren. Mankind may be dirty and short lived and cruel, but the least of us have a greater potential than these broken creatures.
At last, it is time for Malthael to learn what it means to fight a crusader. I see his campaign for what it is—a last desperate maneuver to destroy humanity before we surpass both angels and demons. He fears our potential more than anything. Still, I must be careful. He is the most powerful angel in all existence, and he is the Aspect of Death itself. I can take nothing for granted.
