Chain Lightning (Diablo I)
Chain Lightning is a very powerful spell which Sorcerers eventually end up replacing Lightning with. It a starts out with a rather high mana cost however, so it's not until the player has reached the higher levels that it starts to become practical to use. The high mana cost also makes it largely unusable for any other class.
The spell works exactly like lightning, except it automatically fires one bolt at each enemy nearby. If there are very many enemies nearby, or several chain lightnings are fired in quick succession, the spell might actually miss its targets.

Real Damage: Rnd[clvl] + Rnd + 2 Min. Damage: 4 Max. Damage: 4 + 2*clvl
* Only affects maximum damage, minimum damage is always 4.
