Diablo II Troubleshoot[]

For all errors, reinstalling Diablo II can be the solution.

  • Error: CDkey Error: CD-Key Intended For Another Product.
  • Cause: User has overwritten MPQs in the Diablo II folder.
  • Solution 1: Uninstall and install again and copy MPQs from CD again, but do not overwrite any MPQ in the Diablo II folder (overwriting results in the error message).
  • Confirmed working (maximusje).

  • Error: Compatibility issue (Windows 7).
  • Solution 1: Run the game in windowed mode. Add [space]-w behind shortcut's target. Eg.: "*\Diablo II\Diablo II.exe" -w.

  • Error: Colors are messed up (Windows 7).
  • Cause: Compatibility issues.
  • Solution 1: Run the game in windowed mode. Add [space]-w behind shortcut's target. Eg.: "*\Diablo II\Diablo II.exe" -w.
  • Solution 2: Kill explorer.exe, then run Diablo II. To restart explorer.exe, open Task Manager -> Create Task -> explorer.exe.
  • Solution 3: Change desktop background to a solid color, e.g. black or blue. Right mouse click on desktop and start Screen Resolutions, then run Diablo II.
  • Solution 4: Run D2VidTst (see diablo II folder) and reconfigure settings. Try the setting it suggests and if it doesn't work, try other settings.
  • Solution 5: Right mouse click on Diablo II shortcut -> settings -> compatibility -> disable desktop composition.
  • Solutions 1-5 need to be confirmed working. Please send me a private message.
