Tomb Guardian

A Tomb Guardian surrounded by his minions.

Tomb Guardians are the Skeleton Mages of Diablo III. They are the most annoying of the skeleton families as they summon other skeleton family variants, hurl moderately powerful range attacks and try and avoid melee confrontation. Although they pose little threat by themselves, they do make for nasty support units for the hoards of skeleton family units often found near them. It is recommended to prioritize them down to avoid having to deal with the extra monsters they summon. For this reason powerful single target or ranged skills are most effective against them.

[edit] Pre-Release

Their summoning animation is interesting; in the WWI 2008 gameplay video, they were seen shooting a purple laser beam from each eye. The beams traveled some distance, then converged and dove into the ground, causing a new skeleton to rise up a second later. The animation now is rendered as a wispy purple trail.

[edit] Abilites

  • Evasive
Will try and keep distance from the party to avoid taking melee damage. Will also move erratically to try and evade ranged attacks.
  • Ranged Attacker
Monster is incapable of melee combat and can only attack by hurling projectiles, even at melee range.
  • Summon Skeletal Reinforcement
Summon a single skeletal family monster near the target player. Summoned units have decreased drops over their naturally occurring counterparts. Family and variant of summoned skeletal monster depends on variant.
