Beta Patch 18 – v.0.11.0.9359 - April 19, 2012[]

  • Friends lists from other Blizzard games should now appear properly in the Diablo III beta client


Beta Patch 17 – v.0.11.0.9327 - April 17, 2012[]

General

  • All characters have been wiped. Items, gold, auctions, achievements, followers, and artisans have also been wiped, and Beta Bucks have been reset to 50.
  • Cross-game chat is available! Beta participants can now keep in touch with their Real ID and BattleTag friends, no matter which Blizzard game they're playing.
    • Please note that some restrictions do apply for BattleTag chat:
      • You can only send BattleTag invites while logged into the Diablo III beta client
      • You can only receive BattleTag invites while logged into the Diablo III beta client

 

Bug Fixes

  • Players should no longer be desynced from the server after watching or skipping a cut-scene
  • Projectile spell effects should no longer be invisible when casting them
  • The Auction House should no longer lag and generate ERROR_1 when attempting to switch currencies
  • The Auction House should no longer display your amount of Beta Bucks as 0 unless you actually have 0 Beta Bucks


Beta Patch 16 – v.0.10.0.9183 - April 9, 2012[]

General

  • All characters have been wiped. Please note that this wipe will also affect gold, items, auctions, achievements, followers, and artisans.
  • A new feature has been added that allows players to view their FPS while in game
    • To access this feature, hit Ctrl+R (for PC) or CMD+R (for Mac) while playing
  • The cooldown on swapping skills while in Normal difficulty has been decreased from 15 seconds to 5 seconds

        • "Clobber" rune now has a 35% chance to stun the target for 1.5 seconds

  • Gold and material costs for crafting recipes have been adjusted
  • The chance of salvaging Rare materials from Magic items has been increased

Items

  • Class-specific items no longer have the chance to be generated with affixes that cannot be used by that specific class
    • For example, "Increased Hatred Regeneration" will no longer appear on Wands
  • Demon Hunter one-handed Crossbows have received a damage buff
  • Spirit regeneration on Monk items has been increased

Monsters

  • Slow, stun, and other movement-impairing effects are now more effective on Treasure Goblins
    • In response, Treasure Goblins will now sprint away for a moment after being hit
  • Scavenger monsters will now burrow less often
  • Zombies will no longer feast on corpses unless they are full health
    • This is to address an issue which was preventing zombies' enrage timer from resetting correctly

Bug Fixes

  • Players can now queue for Public Games on "Reign of the Black King" after killing the Skeleton King
  • Players queuing for a specific Public Games quest should no longer be placed into groups on a different quest
  • Being hit with a knockback ability while using Tempest Rush will no longer disconnect you from Battle.net
  • Placeholder text should no longer appear when looking at deceased Hardcore characters in the Hall of Fallen Heroes
  • There should no longer be a delay when accessing the Auction House
  • The female monk should now properly play her "Not Enough Resources" error message instead of her "Invalid Location" error message when attempting to perform an ability without the required amount of resources available
  • Items with affixes that reduce resource costs will now correctly reduce the minimum amount of a resource required to perform a skill
  • Several Simple and Advanced tooltips have received grammar corrections


Beta Patch 15 – v.0.9.0.8896 - March 16, 2012[]

General

  • All characters have been wiped. Please note that this wipe will also affect gold, items, auctions, achievements, followers, and artisans.
  • The gold auction house for Hardcore characters is now available for testing
  • A new quest selection feature has been added
    • Accessed from the main character screen, this feature will allow players to select which stage of a completed or in-progress quest they wish to start at when resuming a game
  • The costs of the first and second Shared Stash tabs have been increased
    • First tab cost increased from 50,000 gold to 100,000 gold
    • Second tab cost increased from 150,000 gold to 200,000 gold
  • The levels at which character skills and skill runes unlock have been adjusted for most classes
  • Treasure Goblins now drop slightly better loot and less junk (slay them all!)

  • Players should no longer receive error messages regarding the Starter Edition of Diablo III
  • Buying extra Stash space in Normal mode no longer expands your Stash space in Hardcode mode
  • Hardcore characters will now be correctly placed into a separate queue from Normal characters when using Public Games to queue for quests
  • The names of a player’s RealID and BattleTag friends should no longer appear as [] when chatting with them


Beta Patch 14 – v. 0.8.0.8815 - March 8, 2012[]

General

  • Hardcore mode is now available, and can be unlocked by reaching level 10 with at least one character
  • Cast time to resurrect a fallen ally has been increased from 1 second to 3 seconds
  • Player created games now default to Invite Only. Check "Allow Quick Join" in the Social tab of the Options menu to allow your friends to join
  • Magic Find and Gold Find are now shared amongst party members. The average combined value of the entire party's Magic and Gold Find applies to all players regardless of location in the game world. The averaged values will not display in the UI
  • Skill UI
    • In Elective mode, skills can now be dragged and dropped from the skill interface into hot-key slots
    • Right-clicking a skill hot-key will now open the skill interface
  • Auction House
    • The Sell interface has been updated to better match the in-game inventory and stash
    • Combined the advanced and basic search features
    • The Active auctions tab now allows users to see all active auctions
    • Searches for recipes and tomes have been added

    • Barbarians now have innate 30% passive damage reduction versus all sources. This damage reduction is applied at the same time as all other damage reducing effects (such as Armor), but prior to shield block

      • Weapon damage reduced from 125% to 85%
      • Now slows enemies in the landing zone by 60% for 3 seconds

  • Gold cost to craft items reduced
  • Cost to train Blacksmith doubled
  • More crafting materials are now required to craft items
  • Chance to salvage rare crafting material from blue Magic items reduced from 10% to 5%

Followers

  • Templar
    • Normal attack now deals 15% weapon damage
    • Intervene taunt reduced from 5 seconds to 3 seconds

Items

  • Several aspects of the game economy have been adjusted, including but not limited to:
    • Gold drops
    • Item sale values
    • Vendor costs
    • Repair costs
  • Rings and Amulets now become available at a higher level. As a result, these items will no longer drop in the in beta. Fear not – sparkly baubles await you in the retail version of the game.

Monsters

  • Mira Eamon now drops better loot.
  • Monster damage has been increased

  • Players are now able to leave the game if unexpectedly disconnected from Battle.net
  • Public Games can once again accommodate up to four players

  • Friends should no longer appear as [ ] in chat

Beta Patch 13 – v.0.7.0.8610 - February 18, 2012[]

A number of significant changes have been made to the character skill and rune systems, as well as to the gold and currency-based auction houses. To learn more about these changes and why they were made, please read the Skill and Rune Changes blog [11] written by Jay Wilson and the Beta Auction House Changes Incoming [12] forum post.

General

  • All characters have been wiped. Please note that this wipe will also affect gold, achievements, items, followers, and artisans.
  • Intelligence now grants 0.1 per point to resistances, and will no longer award any bonus to healing from health globes
  • When dual-wielding, certain skills will now always use your main-hand weapon to determine damage
    • For example, Cyclone Strike will use your main-hand weapon damage even if your off-hand weapon is set to swing next
  • An option to permanently enable Advanced Tooltips has been added to the Gameplay Options
  • Auction House
    • The gold auction house is once again available for testing
    • The listing fee for all auctions has been removed
    • The transaction fee for auctions in the currency-based auction house has been increased to 1.25 Beta Bucks
    • The minimum listing price for an item in the currency-based auction house has been increased to 1.50 Beta Bucks
    • Players may now only have 10 active auctions per auction house
    • Tooltips have been added which will allow players to compare items on the auction house to the items they're currently wearing
  • Battle.net
    • Public chat is now available to test
    • Cross-game support has been added! You can now chat with Real ID friends playing the World of Warcraft PTR or StarCraft II PTR, as well as view their in-game status.
  • Skills
    • The levels at which both active and passive skills unlock have been adjusted for all classes
    • Skill runes are now available for testing
      • The first skill rune will unlock for all characters at level 6, and players can unlock additional runes as they level up
      • In total, players will be able to gain access to 5 skill runes for each skill by level 60
    • Character skills have been broken down into categories, and each category has been assigned to a specific mouse button or action bar slot in the skill UI
      • The following categories will be shared by all classes:
        • Primary Attack
          • "Primary Attack" applies to skills that typically generate resources and can be used frequently
          • By default, Primary Attack is assigned to the first mouse button
        • Secondary Attack
          • "Secondary Attack" applies to more powerful skills that are commonly limited by a cooldown or resource cost
          • By default, Secondary Attack is assigned to the second mouse button
        • Defensive
          • "Defensive" applies to skills which can be used to escape or control the flow of combat
          • By default, Defensive is assigned to the first action bar quick slot
        • Each class will also have three additional categories which are unique. By default, these categories will be assigned to the second, third, and fourth quick slots in the main action bar.
      • Elective Mode: For players who wish to explore character builds which cannot be accomplished with the provided categories, an “Elective Mode” has been provided. When activated, Elective Mode will allow you to place any skill in any skill category slot, as freely as you could before.
        • To enable Elective Mode, simply check the corresponding box located in the Gameplay Options menu.
        • The cooldown on swapping skills has been decreased from 30 seconds to 15 seconds

General

A number of significant changes have been made to key aspects of Diablo III in this patch. To learn more about these changes and why they were made, please be sure to read the "System Changes" blog [13], written by Jay Wilson.

  • All characters have been wiped. Please note that this wipe will also affect gold, achievements, items, followers, and artisans.
  • The Battle.net Balance for all beta participants has been reset to 50 Beta Bucks
  • Core character attributes have been reworked significantly
    • Attack, Defense, and Precision have been removed
    • Dexterity, Intellect, Strength, and Vitality have been added:
      • Dexterity
        • +Demon Hunter damage
        • +Monk damage
        • +Dodge (for all classes)
      • Intellect
        • +Witch Doctor damage
        • +Wizard damage
        • +Health from globes (for all classes)
      • Strength
        • +Barbarian damage

    • Armor will now supplement Defense, as well as provide +Physical resist

      • Players will now start out with 10 Life per Vitality at level 1
  • Nephalem Altars have been removed and players can now swap unlocked skills at any point during gameplay via the Skills list. This will impose a 30-second cooldown on the newly-activated skill, during which time the skill cannot be exchanged for another.
    • Please note that the skills system is still considered a work-in-progress and will be undergoing additional changes in future patches. This iteration of the system is not final.
  • Scrolls of Identification have been removed and players can now identify an item by right-clicking on the item's icon
  • The Nephalem Cube has been removed and the salvage ability has been added to the Blacksmith artisan
  • The Cauldron of Jordan has been removed
  • Stone of Recall has been renamed to "Town Portal" and can now be accessed directly via the Skill bar UI
  • The fifth quick slot button has been moved next to the Town Portal ability in the Skill bar. This slot will eventually be to dedicated to potions, but can currently be used as a normal slot.
  • Skills will now display simplified tooltips by default
    • To view Advanced tooltips, press and hold the CTRL key when hovering over skill icons
  • The duration of the global chill effect granted by cold damage has be increased from 0.4 seconds to 0.6 seconds
  • Achievements have been re-enabled

    • Salvaging a Rare item will always give you a Rare material and a Magic material, as well as a chance to receive a Legendary material
    • Salvaging a Legendary item will always give you a Legendary material, Rare material, and Magic material

Items

  • General
    • Attack, Defense, and Precision random affixes have been replaced with Dexterity, Strength, and Intellect
    • The base damage on slower weapons has been increased. This is because we’re also increasing the potency of elemental damage properties, and elemental damage benefits faster weapons more than slower weapons.
    • The drop rate of Magic items between level 1 and level 20 has been lowered. Single affix-Magic items are now introduced more slowly, and double affix-Magic items won’t appear until later in the game.
  • Vendors
    • Wandering Merchants now have a 50% chance to sell a limited stock Rare item of any type
    • Amulets have been moved from the Collector to the Fence

Monsters

  • Electrified monsters no longer spew lightning on death
  • Arcane Enchanted monsters no longer cast an extra arcane beam on death

Bug Fixes

  • Players should no longer be disconnected from Battle.net when moving a stack of 0 items to their Skill action bar
  • Rapidly moving around items in a character’s inventory should no longer cause those items to become unresponsive
  • Items that display full durability, but are still considered slightly damaged should now be able to be posted on the Auction House
  • Monsters that are killed should now always properly play their death animation rather than remain standing


Beta Patch 9 – v.0.5.1.8101 - December 20, 2011[]

Bug Fixes

  • Your BattleTag code will now properly appear in the Add Friend dialog box
  • Fixed an issue with promoting players to Party Leader via in-game portraits
  • Fixed an issue where sending out in-game invites to multiple players could sometimes cause the Party Leader’s client to freeze when the invites were accepted
  • Fixed an issue where interacting with a character’s banner in a co-op game could cause a player to become momentarily stuck
  • Fixed an issue where rapidly equipping and un-equipping items from your inventory could sometimes cause the inventory UI to lag out
  • Fixed an issue where quickly adding items from a full inventory into the shared stash would not always move the items over correctly
  • Fixed a number of additional issues and crashes that were affecting gameplay

    • This does not affect treasure received from event objects for events like the “Jar of Souls” and only applies to rewards obtained through the quest UI
  • Gold rewards from quests have received a tuning pass

User Interface

  • The Options UI has undergone several improvements, but remains a work-in-progress. Please report any issues in the Beta Bug Report forum.
  • The Friends List has been redesigned to be smaller and more accessible while in other menus and screens
  • The Banner Customization menu has been reworked to improve navigation and usability

Beta Patch 7 – v.0.4.1.7931 - December 1, 2011[]

General

  • A trial version of the Diablo III Currency-Based Auction House is now available for testing. To learn more about how this feature will work in the beta, please review the FAQ. [15]
  • In order to fully test the Currency-Based Auction House and its features, all characters have been wiped. Please note that this wipe will also affect gold, achievements, followers, and artisans.


Bug Fixes

General

  • Auction House
    • Stackable items can now be purchased and sold on the gold Auction House. These items can be purchased in any quantity, provided that the quantity is available for sale, and will pull from multiple auction listings if needed.
  • Battle.net
    • Player profiles have been added! These profiles will display important statistics for each of your characters, as well as 3D models featuring their current gear.
      • Player profiles will only be viewable while in the main, character select, and party screens. They will not be viewable in-game.
      • To access your player profile, click on your hero or press "P."
      • To view other players' profiles while in a party, right-click on their character. Player profiles for Real ID friends can also be accessed by right-clicking on their names in the Friends List.
    • Achievements are now available for testing. Please note that for the beta launch of this system, only a limited number of achievements have been included.
      • To view your characters' achievements, click on the "Achievements" icon located in the lower right or press "Y" at any point while playing.
      • To view another character’s achievements while in a party, right-click on their character and select "Inspect."

Beta Patch 5 – v.0.3.1.7728 - November 3, 2011[]

General

  • All characters have been wiped. As part of this process, artisans, gold, and items (including those placed on the auction house or in a shared stash) have also been reset.
  • Switching out class skills will now require the use of a new feature known as the Nephalem Altar. Nephalem Altars are currently located in New Tristram, as well as in key locations throughout Act I. Clicking on an altar will open up the skill UI, allowing both active and passive skills to be selected or exchanged.
  • Quests
    • Gold rewarded from quests has been significantly reduced
    • Experience rewarded from quests after level 4 is now based on the number of mobs you’d have to kill to earn the same amount of experience, rather than being a strict percentage of a level
  • Skills
    • New passive skills have been added for all classes. See individual class notes below for more information.
    • AoE (Area of Effect) skills for all classes have had their damage reduced
    • Single-target skills for all classes have had their damage increased

  • General
    • Players now start with 5 health potions
    • Health globes now heal you over 1.5 seconds rather than over 5 seconds
    • The number of chests, shrines, and other interactable items (e.g. bookcases and loose stones) has been greatly reduced across the entire game
    • Items sold from vendors will now be at least one item level lower than those that are currently available to a player via drops from monsters
    • The level of an item is now much more likely to match or be close to the level of the monster from which it dropped, and the affixes that appear are much more likely to be from the upper range
  • Weapons
    • Several significant changes have been made to weapons and weapon damage affixes:
      • The damage bonus granted to two-handed weapons over one-handed weapons has been reduced from 15%-38% from level 1-60 to 13%-32%
      • Wands attack speed has been increased from 1.2 to 1.4
      • Quivers, Orbs, and Mojos will now always come with +Min/Max damage
      • Ceremonial Daggers will now frequently come with +Mana Regen
      • Wands will now frequently come with the +Max Arcane Power
    • The amount of inherent slow granted by cold weapons has been reduced from 3 seconds to 1 second
    • One-handed crossbows and daggers now pull from a separate pool of affixes for + damage
    • The damage variance between weapons of the same type has been reduced.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Fixed an issue that was causing two-handed Monk combat staves to not receive the proper damage bonus


Monsters

  • General
    • A new Mortar affix has been added to the game. Mortar monsters will lob grenades at enemies outside melee range.
    • Lightning bolt damage from Electrified-enchanted monsters has been reduced by 40%
    • Monsters that are enchanted to an element (Molten, Electrified, etc.) now correctly have 50% resistance to their chosen element
      • Ex: Molten monsters will have 50% damage resistance to Fire at equal level
    • Wretched Mothers in Act I can now only summon one zombie at a time
    • Treasure Goblins are now immune to fear
  • Bosses
    • Skeleton King
      • Whirlwind damage increased from 100% to 300%
      • Cleave damage increased from 80% to 100%

      • Blacksmiths now start with a Fist weapon and a Dagger weapon option to craft
